Biographical Notes:

Best remembered for today for her starring role alongside Humphrey Bogart as the femme fatale in the 1941 classic, "The Maltese Falcon." That same year, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in another film, "The Great Lie" (opposite Bette Davis.) Three years later, she played Judy Garland's mother in the beloved 1944 musical "Meet Me In St. Louis."
