She taught French and Art at the Hollywood School Girls. She applied for a job as an assistant designer at Paramount Studios on a dare from her students. She became the first designer ever to be Chief Designer for a major film studio.
She was the most honored costume designer with 34 Oscar nominations and 8 Academy awards.
