He was an American baseball player and a very successful manager in major league baseball.

He was an outfielder for five different teams and managed five different teams.

He had a lifetime batting average of .284.

He led the Yankees to 7 World Series championships.

He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966. After being elected to the Hall of Fame, being very proud of it, he added Hall of Fame to his signature.
